There was a time when I wouldn't be caught dead in anything but jeans. Blue, denim, dungarees. Didn't much matter to me if they were faded, new, straight legged, bell-bottom or carpenter jeans. At one time or another I've worn them all. When I was younger, I liked them tight at the top and big at the bottom. As I got older, the legs got straighter and the fit a bit looser. In summer they were cut-offs of pairs I'd worn the knees out of the year before, or perhaps the occasional store-bought jean shorts. One winter I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I discovered flannel-lined jeans (still my favorite to this day).
But with age, something else has taken precedence over fashion sense ... pure comfort. I almost hate to admit it, but more often than not these days, I live my life in a pair of very comfortable nylon/cotton lined sweat pants. That's not to say I don't like wearing jeans anymore ... I do. But since I work in a small office by myself everyday, and don't need to be seen in public or deal with anyone but myself, I figure why not be as absolutely comfortable as I can be. Heck - If I didn't have to go out in the cold to drive myself to work everyday, I'd take it one step further and just live in flannel "lounge pants", but I do have to go to the post office and the store from time to time, so the sweat pants are a better choice I think.
Oh, I do still have enough self respect to dress appropriately when the occasion calls for it, and I have a full wardrobe of various outfits for more formal and business-casual scenarios. But I've been considering the idea of designing my own line of "designer" comfort attire for aging hippie-types like myself that don't fit the typical suit & tie, or even the slacks & polo motif. There's got to be a good market for such a line .... I KNOW I'm not the only "50-something" guy that loves to live life comfortably.
